Miele's indoor squad once again made it to the Bob Smiths Indoor League semi-finals but unfortunately the group was defeated by the resilient McCarthy Kerekes squad.

Despite falling short of the title, Miele had its most successful indoor season to date.  Miele booked 18 wins and 4 losses.  In 22 games Miele scored 171 goals with only 56 against.  Jon Crowley led the scoring with 48 totals goals, Mark Robertson followed with 44 goals and Fred Guster rounded out the top three with 29 goals.

Congratulations to the Miele indoor squad on a successful season!

Newcastle Snaps Miele's Winning Streak

Miele entered week #7 on a 5 game winning streak with momentum surely on their side.  However, Newcastle stood in their way and history has shown that Newcastle has been a difficult contender for Miele.  Newcastle is the only team in MCAMSL that Miele has yet to beat.  The last time these two teams met Miele led the way until Newcastle scored a late equalizer in stoppage time to end the match with a draw.  With Newcastle hot on Miele’s trail for the championship, it was a must win game.

Unfortunately Miele entered the match with key players on the side line.  Attila Csefan is currently serving his second game of his two game suspension for a red card infraction against the Wasps. Miele’s key midfield anchors, Mark Robertson and Fred Guster, were also sidelined as well as staring defensive stopper Sam Niburg.  Ryan Roderick was sidelined with a broken toe, suffered last week against CAM of Princeton and lastly Levente Takacs unavailable for the match.

Despite Miele’s misfortunes it was time for newcomers to take the pitch and shine.  Ben Borm and Kyle Pillitteri were positioned to help out the midfield while Rodney Dewany filled in on defense.

From the start both sides showed their strength defensively as Miele currently has the best defense in the league and Newcastle is tied for the third best defense.  With the game being played out in the midfield, opportunities were scarce for both sides.  Miele soon started to gain control and was frequently pressuring Newcastle’s net.  Miele’s first opportunity came when Jon Crowley linked up with Dwight Millwood.  Crowley played a ball through to Millwood as Millwood laid a high ball off into the path of Marco Lubrano.  Lubrano quickly snapped off a first time volley that narrowly went over the crossbar.  Miele’s strong offense was starting to move the ball to their ability as Newcastle’s defense started to show signs of fatigued.  Relief would soon come for Newcastle as the half time whistle halted Miele’s momentum.

With the second half underway Newcastle turned the table and soon started to pressure Miele’s half.  Newcastle’s midfield took control of the game and was threatening often.    Despite the pressure Miele’s defense kept Newcastle at bay. On 56 minutes Miele’s defense played a ball out to midfield that sprung Dwight Millwood on a breakaway with only the keeper to beat.  Millwood charging the net sent a low screamer to the far post but the strong Newcastle keeper palmed away the effort.  Miele now looking to take back control as Millwood sprung free and would find an opening. This came on 62 minutes with a nice ball put through from newcomer Kyle Pillitteri but yet again Newcastle’s keeper’s denied what should have been Miele’s break through goal.

Newcastle would fight back with as they overloaded the midfield and attack Miele’s back line.  Newcastle would get a quality shot off but a fine diving save from Miele’s keeper, Richard Francis, denied the ice breaker.

With Miele now looking weary, Newcastle started to break down the midfield as Richard Francis had to make several marvelous saves to keep Miele in the game.   However, on 69 minutes the game winner would finally come, but not for the good.  A corner was flicked on to the back post that would be deflected by a Miele defender and dropped in front of an empty net.  As Miele failed to clear the ball Newcastle would stab home the first and only goal of the match.

Miele FC now facing their first loss in 5 games turned up the heat and gave it everything they had.  One more chance would come for Millwood as he broke free, but for the third time; the Newcastle keeper pulled a fine save. The deflected ball bounced into the path of Marco Lubrano but his shot was just wide of the target.  On this day the odds were against Miele as the final whistle would sound and Miele’s winning streak was ended.
